On April 16, the large-scale potato deep-processing project—invested by Inner Mongolia Changsheng Potato Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Changsheng Potato Industry") and set to produce 40,000 tons of refined potato starch, 3,000 tons of potato protein, and 100,000 tons of fermented ruminant feed annually—began construction in Huangyangcheng Gacha, Danglanghutong, Chahar Right Wing Rear Banner, Inner Mongolia.

Recently, Bian Fengzhong, the project’s chief designer and chief engineer, introduced that Changsheng Potato Industry has brought in two 80-ton potato refined starch production lines manufactured by Sino-Food Machinery Group. Equipment installation is scheduled for June, followed by equipment debugging and training of production staff in August, with plans to achieve full-scale plant operation and production within the same year the facility is built.
Bian Fengzhong stated that Changsheng Potato Industry has demonstrated remarkable ambition in its engineering design, going above and beyond to achieve "century-quality" standards in every aspect of construction. For instance, their raw-material pools—each capable of holding 5,000 tons of ingredients—can easily support the round-the-clock production of two 100-ton processing lines. To date, six such pools have been built, each meticulously constructed using reinforced concrete for exceptional durability and longevity. Another example is their 50,000-cubic-meter wastewater treatment facility, which typically relies on laying down an impermeable membrane for cost-effectiveness. However, Changsheng Potato Industry opted instead for a fully reinforced-concrete structure, driving up the construction costs by more than tenfold compared to the membrane approach—while simultaneously eliminating any potential safety risks altogether. Lastly, the company has taken employee housing to a whole new level, equipping it with hotel-like amenities. In addition to standard multi-person rooms, they’ve even thoughtfully included cozy, dedicated "couples’ rooms," ensuring comfort and convenience for every worker.

Inamori Kazuo once said, "God is in the details." Changsheng Potato Industry strives for perfection in every single detail of its project quality, while seamlessly integrating humanistic care throughout—setting yet another industry benchmark for newly built factories.
Zhao Shiwu, the project leader of the Changsheng Potato Industry Project, stated that Chayouhou Banner is one of the core potato-growing areas known as "China's Potato Capital." Around the Changsheng Potato Industry, potato cultivation spans over 1 million mu, yielding more than 2 million tons of potatoes annually. Once completed and put into operation, this project will help transform the region's abundant natural resources into significant economic advantages, enabling local processing of potato raw materials to add value, boosting farmers' incomes from potato farming, and ultimately creating a new driver for economic growth. Moreover, Changsheng Potato Industry, as a super-large potato starch-processing enterprise, currently produces over 40,000 tons of premium-quality starch each year and processes nearly 300,000 tons of fresh potatoes annually. This substantial production capacity not only helps stabilize raw material prices in the market, fostering the steady and healthy development of the local potato farming industry, but also ensures stable pricing for starch products, keeping potato starch prices within a balanced and reasonable range.
Industry experts stated that the completion and commissioning of Changsheng Potato Industry hold multiple significant implications for the local socio-economic development:
First, we are promoting the modernization of potato cultivation. To ensure high-quality raw materials and a stable supply, Changsheng Potato Industry has partnered with farmers to establish standardized farming bases, providing technical support and training, as well as promoting superior varieties and cutting-edge planting techniques. This initiative aims to enhance both the yield and quality of potatoes, thereby accelerating the process of agricultural modernization. At the same time, it encourages farmers to expand their potato-growing areas, fostering large-scale cultivation.
Second, it boosts employment. From raw material procurement and production processing to product sales—each stage requires substantial labor. Changsheng Potato Industry can provide numerous direct employment opportunities for local residents, including production workers, technicians, managers, sales personnel, and more. Additionally, it helps stimulate the growth of upstream and downstream industries such as potato cultivation, transportation, packaging, and warehousing, thereby creating even more indirect job opportunities.
Third, we are extending the agricultural value chain. Changsheng Potato Industry is transforming potatoes from mere agricultural products into industrial ones, enabling local processing and conversion of agricultural goods. This move not only lengthens the agricultural value chain and boosts the added value of farm products but also shifts the region’s economic landscape away from relying primarily on the production of raw agricultural commodities, fostering a more diversified industrial structure that emphasizes higher value-added activities.
Fourth, it will drive the development of related industries. The construction of a large-scale potato starch factory can stimulate growth in adjacent sectors such as packaging, logistics, and machinery manufacturing, creating an industrial cluster effect that enhances the overall competitiveness of local industries and fosters collaborative regional economic development.
Fifth, it helps boost rural revitalization. Changsheng Potato Industry's "order-based cooperation" model ensures stable income for potato farmers, while also attracting capital, technology, and talent to the Danglanghutong Huangyangcheng Gacha area. This, in turn, fosters the improvement of rural infrastructure and enhances the quality of public services, thereby invigorating the rural economy and driving comprehensive rural revitalization.

When rivers run wild across the land, it’s precisely then that a company’s true charm shines through. In the heart of the potato-growing and processing industry—known as China’s "Potato Capital"—the completion and commissioning of a large-scale factory equipped with two 100-ton production lines will significantly propel China’s potato starch industry toward greater consolidation, efficiency, and sustainable, eco-friendly manufacturing practices.

Editor's Note: In 2024, China’s actual total potato starch production surpassed the one-million-ton mark for the first time—a statistic that is both significant and encouraging for the industry. However, sluggish consumer demand has kept more than 100,000 tons of excess starch lingering in the market, continuously weighing down and depressing the overall sales price of potato starch— a trend that has persisted from last autumn until today.
In July, northern Shanxi is lush with vibrant greenery, dotted with swaying potato blossoms, creating a scene of breathtaking diversity. At Shanxi Malldang Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as "Malldang Company") in Yuyang District, Yulin City, the author witnessed a bustling construction site: workers were busily installing roof panels atop the towering workshop, while engineering vehicles shuttled back and forth.
