RO water treatment system

Key words:

Reverse osmosis technology is currently the most advanced and energy-saving membrane separation technology. The principle is to separate other substances from water under the action of osmotic pressure higher than the solution, based on their inability to penetrate the semi permeable membrane. Due to the very small pore size of the RO membrane, it can effectively remove dissolved salts, colloids, microorganisms, organic matter, etc. in water (with a removal rate of up to 97-98%). The system has advantages such as good water quality, low energy consumption, no pollution, simple process, and easy operation.

The RO system first pretreates the raw water through quartz sand filters, activated carbon filters, and 5 μ m security filters to ensure that the water quality meets the RO inlet standards. Then, it is pressurized by a high-pressure pump and uses RO membrane elements (or semi permeable membranes) with a pore size of 1/10000 μ m (equivalent to 1/6000 of Escherichia coli and 1/300 of viruses) to isolate all dissolved salts, colloids, microorganisms, organic matter, and inorganic impurities in the water, so as to ensure that the produced water meets the physical and health standards for drinking.

Starch production has special requirements for water quality, as calcium and magnesium ions in water have affinity for hydrogen bonds with glucose units on starch molecules, weakening their affinity for water and leading to a decrease in starch viscosity.

According to industry statistics, in potato starch production enterprises, the Brabander viscosity difference of starch between using RO system and not using RO system is about 500-800BU. Therefore, in the starch production process, RO system should be used as much as possible to remove ions from the water completely, to ensure higher viscosity of starch .
